In June 2020, Cat & Eurig came to Scotland for their Kilmartin Castle elopement. The castle is restored from the 16th Century. Kilmartin is one of our favourite corners of Scotland – surrounded by standing stones, forts and cairns that are over 500 years old. It’s a region steeped in folklore and romance, the perfect setting for a wedding between a Scot and a Welshman.
As soon as Cat & Eurig enquired about their Kilmartin Castle Elopement – we knew we’d be in for a beautiful day. They wanted as much beach, nature and flowers as possible in their day and in their images, we said leave it to us!
Kilmartin Castle is a really special place, quietly tucked on the West Coast of Scotland. It boasts dramatic views and weird and wonderful interiors. Cat & Eurig and their families spent a few days enjoying the Castle over their elopement. Enjoying the nearby walks as well as amazing facilities inside the Castle.
Cat & Eurig’s Kilmartin Castle Elopement began with a first look. Essentially first looks are where the couple take a moment together and celebrate first seeing each other. One partner will stand with their back towards a door while the other partner enters and when prompted, the first partner will turn around and they’ll both be able to see each other. Couples normally have lots of fun in this moment of anticipation and find that it helps with nerves meeting at a ceremony spot.
So we know that Scotland isn’t known for great weather, Cat & Eurig were so blessed with a full day of sunshine for their summer elopement in Scotland. Kilmartin Castle has the sweetest intimate ceremony spot available just outside the castle with gorgeous views of the surrounding hills.
Cat & Eurig’s ceremony celebrated them in so many ways. Firstly, with poetry readings then a performance of a song Eurig’s father and sister wrote. Towards the end Cat & Eurig’s vows were sealed in a handfasting ritual and a kiss.
If you’d like to learn more about handfasting, read our How to Elope in 2024 blog.
Cat & Eurig both work as biologists and share an unrelenting passion for the outdoors. They knew they wanted their elopement to match with their values and so opted to use dried wildflower petals for their confetti toss.
Surrounded by flower petals, Cat & Eurig and their loved ones set about celebrating – sharing a few glasses of fizz and some homemade cake.
Afterwards, everyone hopped in the landrover to head to the beach. Cat & Eurig wanted their dogs to get some special treatment on their day too, taking them to one of their favourite spots – the beach. And yes, there was yet more confetti!
Once we arrived at the beach Cat & Eurig asked ‘Did you see those bluebells on the way here? We need to go on the way back!’ and they were absolutely right. That’s one of the best things about elopements – there was no timeline running over our heads – there was absolutely time to go and see the bluebells.
Parking on a sandy verge on the read, we roamed into the bluebells – staying on a small path so that none were harmed!
Cat & Eurig’s wedding was featured on the We Fell in Love blog which you can read here.
Here’s what they had to say about us:
“They were enthusiastic, reassuring and had really great communication with us from booking, right through to receiving our photos. They were really awesome and cared so much about our journey with them.
But the thing we most loved about them was their willingness for adventures and going with the flow.”
